A Thing is the high-level concept of an item to render. It can have parts to annotate, and variants in exact model. For example, a "bottle" thing might be defined to have a cap and a body. A "bottle" has many different variants that it comes in, like different shaped beverage bottles, or spray bottles for which to upload 3D models.
